Moving to the Balearics from the UK means combining a standard European road removal with a sea freight crossing from mainland Spain. Alltranz Removals handles this end to end from our depot at Long March Industrial Estate, Broad March, Daventry NN11 4HE. We are Road Haulage Association members, Move Assured accredited, and hold an International CPC alongside a Waste Carriers Licence. You deal with one job number and one point of contact in our Daventry office from collection through to delivery on Mallorca, Ibiza, or Menorca.
What moving to the Balearics from the UK actually involves
The Balearic Islands sit off the east coast of Spain. Getting your belongings there requires two legs: road freight from the UK to a Spanish port (typically Barcelona or Valencia), then a Ro-Ro or container ferry crossing to the island. Alltranz arranges both legs under one job number. You do not need to find a separate Spanish haulier or a ferry broker.
The road leg follows our standard European route via the Channel, south through France, and into Spain. Transit time from our Daventry depot to Barcelona typically runs four to six days depending on volume and loading schedules. The ferry crossing adds one to two days. Expect total transit of seven to twelve days from collection date to island delivery, though this varies by destination port and time of year.
For large volumes, we load into a dedicated container or curtainsider. For smaller moves, we consolidate with other Spain-bound freight on the same run. We will advise at survey which option fits your volume.
Post-Brexit paperwork for Balearics moves
Since January 2021, moving from the UK to Spain (including the Balearic Islands) is treated as an international export. Your belongings must clear both UK and Spanish customs. Alltranz prepares the documentation and works alongside a Spanish customs agent on your behalf.
The standard relief available to most movers is Transfer of Residence. Under this framework, personal household goods can be imported duty-free provided you meet the qualifying conditions: items must have been in your personal possession for more than six months, and you must be making a permanent or long-term move.

Island by island: what to expect
Mallorca
Mallorca is the most established destination for British movers in the Balearics. The main entry port is Palma de Mallorca. Delivery access across the island varies: Palma city centre and the northern mountain villages both have access constraints that we plan for at quote stage. Our dedicated removals to Mallorca page covers route detail and delivery windows.
Ibiza
Ibiza town and the rural north of the island attract a mix of year-round residents and seasonal movers. The port at Ibiza town handles Ro-Ro freight. Summer bookings fill quickly: if you are moving between May and September, contact us early. See our removals to Ibiza page for full route and timing detail.
Menorca
Menorca is a quieter route with fewer consolidated freight runs available. Moves to Menorca are typically handled as part load combined with Mallorca freight to Palma, then a shorter onward crossing to Mahon. Lead times are longer than Mallorca or Ibiza. Call 01327 876007 to discuss your Menorca move directly.
Storage bridging: when your island home is not ready
Property completions in the Balearics frequently slip. If your UK sale completes before your Spanish property is ready to receive your belongings, you need somewhere to hold the goods in the meantime. Alltranz runs containerised storage at our Daventry depot in 8ft, 10ft and 20ft shipping containers. Your goods stay with us in secure storage, then ship to the island when you confirm the handover date.

Common mistakes when moving to the Balearics
Booking the ferry yourself before the road freight is confirmed. Crossing bookings depend on the vehicle arriving at port on a specific date. Let Alltranz manage both legs so the schedule holds together.
Underestimating the inventory time. Spanish customs require a full valued inventory. A rough list emailed the week before departure will delay clearance. The pre-move survey (in person or video) is how we build the inventory properly.
Not accounting for seasonal port congestion. Palma and Ibiza ports are busy from June through September. Goods can sit at port for two to four days longer than off-season. Build this into your move-in date if you are relocating in summer.
Assuming Transfer of Residence is automatic. It requires the right documents filed in the right order. Missing one item, such as proof of your UK address for the previous 12 months, stalls the whole shipment at port.
Planning a door-to-door timeline without checking island access. Mountain villages in Mallorca and rural fincas across all three islands often require a local tail-lift vehicle for the final delivery. We arrange this at quote stage; do not assume a large curtainsider can reach your front door.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does moving to the Balearics from the UK take?
From collection at your UK address to delivery on the island, expect seven to twelve days for Mallorca and Ibiza under normal conditions. Menorca typically adds two to three days due to the onward crossing from Palma. Summer peak season (June to September) can add two to four days at the Spanish port. We give you a firm collection date and a delivery window at booking; your Daventry contact updates you at each handover point.
How much does a Balearics removal cost?
Every job is different. Volume, access at both ends, the specific island, and the time of year all affect the price. We survey before quoting so the figure reflects your actual move. Call 01327 876007 or get a quote online and we will come back with clear pricing. We do not publish fixed rates for European moves because a quote based on your real inventory is always more accurate than a rate card.
Do I need a Spanish customs agent for a Balearics move?
Yes. Since Brexit, all UK-to-Spain moves (including the islands) require customs clearance on arrival. Alltranz works alongside a Spanish customs agent on every European move we run. We coordinate the agent as part of the job and prepare the paperwork pack before the vehicle leaves Daventry. You do not need to source an agent independently.
Can you move a car to the Balearics?
Alltranz offers car transportation as a separate service line. If you want your vehicle shipped alongside your household goods, raise this at survey so we can quote both together and coordinate the port documentation. Vehicles moving to Spain under Transfer of Residence are subject to their own import conditions: the car must have been registered in your name for at least six months prior to the move.
