Moving to Spain from the UK
Door-to-door removals from Daventry to the Costa del Sol, Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid and beyond. Over 20 years running international moves. Call 01327 876007 for a quote.
Moving to Spain from the UK is one of the most popular international relocations Alltranz handles. Whether you are heading for the Costa del Sol, Alicante, Barcelona, or inland to Madrid, we manage the full process from your home in the Midlands to your new front door in Spain.
Based at our Broad March depot in Daventry, Northamptonshire, Alltranz has been running domestic and international removals for over 20 years. Our Spain removal service covers full export packing, customs documentation support, tracked transit by road, and delivery to your new address. Transit times for dedicated loads are typically three to five days from collection. For a quote, call us on 01327 876007.
Moving to Spain: The Alltranz Removal Service
We run dedicated road moves to Spain from our Daventry depot. The route goes via the Channel, south through France, and into Spain. Alltranz handles every step under one job number, from UK collection through to final delivery at your Spanish address, with one point of contact in our office throughout.
What we provide as standard:
Pre-move survey at your UK address (in person or video) so the quote reflects the real volume.
Full export packing using recyclable and sustainable materials.
Customs documentation support, including the valued inventory, non-cession certificate, and mandate for the customs agent.
Tracked transit to Spain by road, via the Channel and through France.
Delivery to the door at your Spanish address, with placement of major items.
Storage bridging from our Daventry depot if your new home is not ready when you leave the UK.
Post-Brexit, every UK to Spain move requires customs clearance at the Spanish border. Alltranz prepares the paperwork and works alongside a Spanish customs agent on your behalf. You handle your own residency documentation, such as your TIE card, NIE, and padrón registration, directly with the Spanish authorities.
We are an RHA member with an International CPC and a Waste Carriers Licence. You are dealing with a family-run firm that operates its own fleet, not a broker passing your move down a chain.
Popular Destinations for British Movers in Spain
We have moved customers to every corner of mainland Spain and to the Balearics. The most common destinations are:
Costa del Sol
Malaga, Marbella, and Fuengirola. The most established British expat region in Spain, with the largest English-speaking community and the busiest delivery routes on our European schedule.
Costa Blanca
Alicante, Torrevieja, and Benidorm. Tens of thousands of British residents in this region, with strong demand for both full and part loads year-round.
Barcelona and Catalonia
Popular with younger movers, professionals, and families relocating for work or lifestyle. City-centre deliveries need access planning, which we handle at quote stage.
Madrid
The default destination for corporate and work relocations. Central enough for us to combine with deliveries further south on the same run.
Murcia
Mazarron, Camposol, and the surrounding area. A growing expat community with strong demand from Midlands and Northants customers in particular.
Mallorca and the Balearics
Island moves require sea freight for the final leg from mainland Spain. We arrange this end to end, so you have one point of contact for the whole job.
If your destination is not listed above, call 01327 876007. We have run moves to inland villages, rural fincas, and city-centre flats with restricted access. The fleet runs SATNAV, trackers, and dash cams on every European job.
Customs and Documentation for a UK to Spain Move
The Spanish Transfer of Residence exemption (Cambio de Residencia) lets you import your household items duty-free if you are permanently relocating. To qualify, you must:
Have lived in the UK for at least 12 consecutive months before the move.
Have owned the items being shipped for at least six months.
Agree not to sell or transfer the items within 12 months of arrival in Spain. This is confirmed by signing the non-cession certificate.
Documents You Will Need
Passport copy.
Proof of UK address covering the last 12 months (utility bills or council tax statements).
Proof of your new Spanish address (rental contract, escritura, or padrón).
Full valued and signed inventory of every item being shipped. We draft this from the survey, you check and sign.
Non-cession certificate.
Mandate authorising the Spanish customs clearance agent.
Without Transfer of Residence relief, Spanish import VAT is charged at 21% on the shipment value. Getting the paperwork right matters. We walk every customer through the documents at the survey stage so nothing is left to chance before the truck leaves Daventry.
Storage Bridging if Your Spanish Home Is Not Ready
A common issue with Spanish purchases: completion slips, the rental arrangement falls through, or you plan to spend a few weeks in temporary accommodation while you settle in. We hold your shipment in secure containerised storage at our Daventry depot for as long as you need, then dispatch when you give us the go-ahead.
Storage is in 8ft, 10ft, and 20ft shipping containers, with internal crates and racking on site. The facility is staffed and CCTV-covered. Pricing is per container per week, agreed up front at quote stage. Full detail is on our Storage Solutions page.
Full Load or Part Load to Spain?
Full Load
A dedicated lorry running directly from your UK address to your Spanish address. Best for three-bedroom homes and larger. Transit is typically three to five days, the delivery date is fixed, and your goods are not consolidated with anyone else's.
Part Load
Shares space with other customers heading the same direction. Best for one to two-bedroom properties or smaller volumes. More flexible on timing and lower in cost. Transit is usually seven to ten days because the lorry consolidates other shipments along the route.
Both options include export packing, customs paperwork support, tracked transit, and door-step delivery. The right choice depends on volume, budget, and whether you need a fixed delivery date. We confirm which fits your move at the survey.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does it take to move from the UK to Spain?
A full load typically takes three to five days from collection to delivery. A part load runs seven to ten days because the lorry consolidates other shipments along the way. Confirmed transit windows are agreed at quote stage once we have the destination postcode and load size.
Q: Do I pay import duties when moving to Spain from the UK?
If you qualify for Transfer of Residence relief, no. You import your household goods duty-free. Without that relief, Spanish import VAT is charged at 21% on the shipment value. We confirm your eligibility and prepare the paperwork before anything ships.
Q: What documents do I need for a UK to Spain removal?
Passport copy, proof of UK address covering the last 12 months, proof of your new Spanish address, a full valued and signed inventory, a non-cession certificate, and a mandate for the Spanish customs agent. We send a documents checklist after the survey and draft the inventory from the survey data.
Q: What are the most popular areas in Spain for British movers?
Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, Barcelona, Madrid, and Murcia account for most UK to Spain moves we handle. Alltranz covers all of mainland Spain and Mallorca, including rural inland addresses and island deliveries that need sea freight for the final leg.
Q: Can you store our belongings if our Spanish home is not ready?
Yes. We hold shipments in containerised storage at our Daventry depot for as long as needed, then dispatch on your instruction. Pricing is per container per week and agreed up front.
Q: Do you handle the Spanish customs paperwork?
We prepare the export-side documents and work with a Spanish customs agent at the border. You handle your own residency paperwork, such as TIE, NIE, and padrón, directly with the Spanish authorities. The customs clearance side is handled by Alltranz.
